Understanding Job Roles Before Accepting a New Position

Approximately, 90% of people applying for new jobs neglect to do one thing. They forget to look at the job roles associated with the job they are applying for. Most applicants will apply for a job based on its title and requirements. When it comes to discussing the day to day responsibilities, they simply glance over the explanation. It usually is not until they have been on the job for three months that they start to wonder if this is the job for them. It is at this point that they realize that the job was not what they were expecting. It is about this time that they start pounding the pavement again in search for their next job. However, if they would have delved deeper they would have realized everything that the job entailed. At which time they probably would not have taken the job, or not be surprised by the turn of events.

 

When you are looking for a new job or a change in career paths, you must look at all aspects of the position. Before you can look deeper, you need to understand how most Human Resources view the different positions. They see a job a collection of tasks and responsibilities. They see the description as the general outline of what is required. They see job roles as the work it will require to get the job done. Therefore, when you apply for a new position you will want to ask questions regarding the job roles, not just about the job tasks. This should provide you with the information you need to be able to make an informed decision.

 

There is nothing worst than getting stuck on a new job, that you know you do not like. You may not be in a position to quit. Therefore, you know you have no choice but to stick it out for at least one year. However, you could have foreseen this coming if you would have done a little more research on not only the company, but on the job and the job roles associated with the position. This is a misconception that many people make. However, it usually only takes one time before you get it right.
